How To Keep Your Body Healthy And Your Mind Happy While Working At A Desk Job?
Working all day sitting in the same space, staring at your computer can be physically and mentally exhausting—a sedentary lifestyle increases all-cause of mortality, depression and anxiety.
I'm not telling you to quit your desk job; I love mine and wouldn't want to do another job. However, you have to keep in mind that staying sitting down is not the best for your body. There are a few things that you can do to keep your body active and your mind at peace.
- KEEP A GOOD POSTURE.
It is extremely important to keep a good posture while working at your desk. This will leave your body pain-free.
I had often found myself suffering from back pains due to bad posture. To ensure your body is in the correct position, you can invest in an ergonomic chair and an ergonomic cushion for lower back support.
In addition, you should also check if your screen is adjusted to your eye level; this will prevent you from constantly looking down and straining your neck. If you are not able to change your screen, you can buy a monitor riser stand.
- TAKE CARE OF YOUR BODY DURING YOUR BREAKS
When you are taking your five minutes breaks, try to do something that will help your body. It can be walking to the lunchroom to refill your tea or doing minor stretches; these actions help your blood flow circulation, which will help you feel more motivated and active. Besides, when you are constantly sitting down, your metabolism slows down; moving will help you reactivate it and burn more fat!
Take care of your eyes during your break. The first thing that most people do when starting their break is checking their phones. However, if you are already fixing a screen all day long, your eyes must be tired. To reduce eye strain, you can focus for a few minutes on objects far away during your break or practice eye massage.
- STAY ACTIVE
Working at a desk job doesn't mean that you can't be active. First, you can invest in a standing desk. I've to admit this is not for me, but it can be excellent for your body if you can focus the same while working standing up.
Secondly, you can go to work on foot, or if the journey is too long, you can choose to take the stairs instead of the elevator to go to your office.
Thirdly, you can wake up early and have a morning walk; working from home, I don't have anywhere to go, so I like to walk in the morning or during my lunchtime to keep my body active!
Additionally, it would be best if you also enjoyed your free time to do some sport, working out is what your body needs to stay in good health. Don't give yourself the excuse "I'm not sportive, I don't like sport". There are so many sports available! I'm sure that if you do a little bit of research, you will find the one for you!
- EAT HEALTHY
It goes without saying that a healthy body first starts with good alimentation. To avoid unhealthy snacking, try to eat well-balanced meals! Good food keeps your moods and energy level up; this is what you need to be your best at work. You can also give an extra boost to your body by drinking one of our ginger shots in the morning or at lunch to fight mid-afternoon fatigue!
In addition, try to eat your dinner at least 2.5 hours before going to bed; if you eat too late, it'll interfere with your sleep and make you feel worse and groggy the following day.
- MAKE YOUR DESK LOOK PRETTY
Working in a great environment makes you feel automatically better. Take the time each time you start or finish your day to clean your desk. This will help you from feeling overwhelmed by clutter. Keeping your desk organise it's a must for your mental health and productivity. Also, decorate your desk and make it look beautiful; this will make you feel more at home. You can put some flowers and cute pictures on your desk. You can also choose to use some pretty stationeries. I'm a massive fan of Paperchase and Typo for stationery decorations.
- WORK OUTSIDE
If you can work outside, try to do it. Go in a park or on your balcony and get your healthy dose of vitamin D! Moreover, working outdoors helps to reduce stress and improves your energy levels. There is nothing such as breathing the fresh air to feel revitalised.
- SCHEDULE WALKING MEETINGS
Why should all your meetings take place in a meeting room or at the restaurant? Grab a Fighter Shots and go for a walking meeting; this can be a great way to add some activity to your work schedule. Besides, walking outside improves your creativity, it's a win-win for a more healthy body and more productive work!
- ADD SOME WELLNESS QUOTES IN YOUR WORKPLACES.
Having in front of you inspirational quotes every day will help you feel more positive and determined to get your tasks done. Besides, if you often read wellness quotes, it will help you remember this article and apply all the wellness tips I just gave you to keep your body healthy and happy! You can print some quotes and have them around your office or add them as your computer's background.
- DRINK, DRINK, DRINK
I would never repeat it enough, but drinking water is essential to keep your body healthy and energised. Besides, did you know that drinking water can prevent you from overeating? One of the first reasons people overeat is dehydration.
Keep a bottle next to you and give yourself a water intake objective; for example, if you have a small bottle of 500ml, try to drink at least three of them every day.
As you can see, there are many things that you can do to stay active while working in an office job! Move your body as often as you can, eat healthily, and you will feel fantastic.
Amazing post, I do see myself a lot in some of these situations and I need to improve a lot.Especially in terms of my posture!
